POIConverter is a dedicated software to convert different files containing POI (Points of Interest), routes, and tracks. You can convert files of formats like GPX, KML, CSV, XLS, RTE, WPT, TRK, ITN, etc.
To convert GPX to KML, first, open the desired GPX file and then use Save option to save it in KML format. It provides an Append option to add multiple GPX files in a sequence to convert to one KML file. But unlike other listed software, it doesn’t display the content of the opened GPX file. You can neither view nor edit GPX file data before conversion.

What is KML? |

Keyhole Markup Language (KML) is an XML-based format for storing geographic data and associated content and is an official Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard. KML is a common format for sharing geographic data with non-GIS users as it can be easily delivered on the Internet and viewed in a number of free applications, including Google Earth, Mipatek KML Manager and ArcGIS Explorer. KML files have either a .kml or .kmz (for compressed or zipped KML files) file extension.
KML can be composed of both feature and raster elements including points, lines, polygons, and imagery, as well as related content like graphics, pictures, attributes, and HTML. Whereas datasets in ArcGIS are typically seen as separate and homogeneous elements (for example, point feature classes can only contain points, rasters can only contain cells or pixels and not features), a single KML file can contain features of different types as well as imagery.
ArcGIS for Desktop has tools for converting KML to an ArcGIS data format, so you can view, edit, and analyze the geographic data contained in any KML file. There are also tools for creating KML, so you can convert any of your data or maps into a KML file that can be easily shared. All of the features of the KML 2.0 and 2.1 specifications are supported in ArcGIS for Desktop. None of the new features in the KML 2.2 specification are currently supported, including time animation, photo overlays, and schema tags. However, even version 2.2 KML will likely be able to be converted to ArcGIS data, as any unsupported tags will be ignored and supported tags such as feature geometry and imagery will be converted.
ArcGIS for Server provides a mechanism for publishing map and image services as KML. This KML will be dynamically linked to the services, so the latest data and maps on the server will be available in the KML.
Why share GIS data as KML?
KML is an excellent format for sharing geographic data with a wide audience because:
- It is a highly portable single file that can contain all of a layer or map's elements, such as feature geometry, imagery, symbology, descriptions, attributes, imagery, and other related content.
- It can be viewed in a number of free and popular applications such as Google Earth, Mipatek KML Manager and ArcGIS Explorer.

GpsPrune is a free portable GPX to KML converter software for Windows. Like other software, it also lets you save GPX file as KML or KMZ file. As you open a GPX file, it displays track details and waypoints on the interface. If you want, you can edit the content of the added GPX file right before conversion. You can add new waypoints, remove a waypoint, or duplicate a waypoint using Points menu. Additionally, it provides options like Compress track, Split track into segments, Rearrange waypoints, Delete points by date, etc.
Apart from KML and KMZ, you can also convert GPX file to POV, SVG, Text, and Image files.

Viking is one more GPX to KML converter software for Windows. Like other software, it also lets you open a GPX file and then export it to a KML file. The GPX file can be edited too before conversion. For that, you can edit waypoint properties (longitude, latitude, description, altitude, etc.), insert new waypoints, or delete existing waypoints. It also lets you create tracks and routes to add to the GPX file. You can append multiple GPX files to a single one. It comes with a Layers menu which can be used to add new Aggregate, Trackwaypoint, Coordinate, GeoRef Map, GPS, Map, and DEM layers. It is another simple software to convert GPX to KML. This software also provides a feature to geotag a picture using a waypoint.

RouteConverter is a free GPX to KML converter software for Windows. It is really simple to convert GPX to KML or even zipped KML i.e. KMZ file in this software. Just open a GPX file and use Save As option to convert it to a KML or KMZ file. It supports different KML files based on GPS data format, such as iGO8 Route, Google Earth 3, Google Earth 4, etc.
Before GPX to KML conversion, you can also view and edit the content of the GPX file.
o It lets you edit a waypoint by modifying its description, coordinates, elevation, etc.
o You can also change the location of a waypoint using the map.
o Additionally, it lets you insert new points, delete existing ones, reorder them, etc.
o Also, you can import data from another GPX file or any supported file to add to the current one.
Its other supported formats include TRK, CSV, RTE, LOG, ASC, etc. files.

GPS TrackMaker, as the name suggests, is basically a track file maker software for Windows. It can also be used to convert GPX to KML. You can actually convert many more track files using it, such as GTM, MAP, WPT, TRK, RTE, TXT, DBX, etc.
In this free software, you can convert a GPX file to KML format in two ways:
Using Convert Files option: You can access this option from File menu. It lets you directly convert GPX to KML or any supported file format.
Using Save File As option: If you wish to edit GPX file prior to GPX to KML conversion, you can simply open the file and then view and edit it. To edit, you can modify waypoints, draw new waypoints, create routes, delete waypoints, etc. To know more about its track creating tools, check here > GPX Creator. After editing GPX file, you can use Save File As option to export it to KML format. It provides another useful tool to merge multiple GPX files in one single KML or any supported file.
GPS TrackMaker is one of my favorite software to convert GPX to KML. It also lets you view track files in Google Maps or Google Earth.

DO NOT ASK for email addresses or phone numbers
Your account will be banned permanently and your posts will be deleted.
2. Do not post copyright-infringing material
Providing or asking for information on how to illegally obtain copyrighted materials is forbidden.
3. Do not post “offensive” posts, links or images
Any material which constitutes defamation, harassment, or abuse is strictly prohibited. Material that is sexually or otherwise obscene, racist, or otherwise overly discriminatory is not permitted on these forums. This includes user pictures. Use common sense while posting. This is a web site for accountancy professionals.
4. Do not cross post questions
Please refrain from posting the same question in several forums. There is normally one forum which is most suitable in which to post your question.
5. Do not PM users asking for help

However, you are not free to attack, degrade, insult, or otherwise belittle them or the quality of this community. It does not matter what title or power you hold in these forums, you are expected to obey this rule.
General Posting Guidelines
We figured this was necessary because a lot of people come in and post threads without thinking, and without realizing that there is no possible way they could get help because of the way they posted the question. Here are some general guidelines.
1. Please use SEARCH first!
There is a pretty good chance that unless you have some really odd or unique problem that it has been addressed on our forum before, please use the forum’s search feature first to see if there are already some good threads on the subject. It’s easy to search – just click the “Search” button at the top right of the page.
2. Be DESCRIPTIVE and Don’t use “stupid” topic names
PLEASE post a descriptive topic name! Give a short summary of your problem IN THE SUBJECT. (Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people).
Here’s a great list of topic subjects YOU SHOULD NOT POST :
Quote:Help me, Hello, Very urgent, I have a question
Generally ANYTHING similar to those is unacceptable. Just post your problem.
Here is a good example of a way to post a question
Quote:“how to calculate the sensitivity of net annual operating cash flows”
or
“where is the ACCA exam centre in Glasgow”
Remember when people help you, they are doing YOU a favor
Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and not snapping at people with garbage such as
“if you aren’t going to help don’t waste my time replying”.
